A corporate view of 'The Corporation"

The main message of the film is that, through their psychopathic pusuit of profit, firms make good people do bad things. Or the company defined as a human results to be not a nice one.
the list of abuses that arise from the persistent pursuit of profit brings up issues like pollute the environment, hurt animals, exploit workers and accounting fraud. These behaviors are signs arising from a list of pathologies that includes disregard for the well-being of others, deceitfulness and the inability to form lasting relationships.
Nowaday corporations are the dominant institutions
and for good or bad are the major influence in our lifes, however it seems to be an excuse to continue exploitative practices.
Despite not being natural persons, coporations are recognized by the law to have rigths and responsabilities like natural people. But since there is not any moral concience the corporations seems to be the evil poeple in the world.
I strongly recomend the documentary as a perfect analisys of the nature, evolution, impcts and future of the modern business corporation and the increing role it plays in society and our everyday lives.

Intenational Organization for Migration

"An intergovernmental organization established in 1951, IOM is committed to principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society."

The migration of women has always been an imortant component of international migration. As of it's offcial that almost 50 per cent of all intenational migrants are women or girls.

Most migrant women move voluntarily, but women and girls are algo forces migrants in order to escape from conflict, persecution, natural disasters or because they have been victims of trafficking for prostitution and forced labor. Any other situation that affect their security will be followed by migration.

Social roles of women. independence, autonomy, ability to make decisions, their access to resources , and the gender stratification are reasons for the involment of women in migration.

Tho IOM sees the traffiking of women and girls as the major criminal activity because women who are trafficked are the most vulnerable of all migrants as the trafficking involves manipulation, intimadation and abuse of power. trafficked women and girls frequently originate from regions where there are few employment opportunities so they often believe they will work in legitime occupations but find themselves stucked into forced marriage, domestic work, prostitution, factories and other forms of slavery.

The organization strategies to prevent trafficking include the dissemination of information on the modes used by traffickers to entrap women, the threats involved and the legal channels open for migration, as well as the facility of better employment opportunities in their country of origin.

MERGING & ACQUISITIONS

On 20 October 2006 the board of directors of Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus accepted a 7.6 billion takeover bid from Tata Steel. The deal is the largest Indian takeover a foreing company and made Tata Steel the world's fifth-largest steel group.

The process of mergers and acquisitions has gained substantial importantce in today's corporate world. this process is extensively used for restructuring the business organizations.

This concept was initiated in India by the government bodies. Some well known financial organizations also took the necessary initiatives to restructure the corporate sector of India by adopting the mergers and acquisitions policies.

As an example I will discuss one of the major deals.

This acquisition was the biggest overseas acquistion by an Indian company. Tata Steel emerged as the fifth largest steel producer in the world after the acquisition. the deal gave Tata Steel acces to Corus' strong distribution network in Europe.

Tata Steel was a low cost steel producer in fast developing regionof the world and Corus was a high value product manufacturer in the region of the world demanding value products.

Some of the collaborations that could arise from the deal were:

* Tata Steel was one of the lowest cost steel producers in the world and had self sufficiency in raw material. In the other hand Corus was fighting to keep its productions costs under control and was on the look out for sources of iron ore.

* There was a strong culture fit between the two organizations both of which highly focused on continuous improvemnt and ethics.

After the acquisition, the top managment team of Corus was retained as Tata Steel believed that a high degree of cultural compatibility existed between the two companies. This was expected to facilitate an effective integration of business over a period of time.

MANAGEMENT LESSONS FROM SOUTH AFRICA

"Ubuntu is the foundation for the basic values that manifest themselves in the ways african people think and behave toward each other and everyone else they encounter."

The human interdependence leads people to a situation where they will need other people to complete a chain succesfully.

Mzamo P. Mangaliso describes de abuntu philosophy as a competitive advantage we all as future managers should be aware of in order to create the perfect working environment.

Ubuntu focuses on people's loyalty and realtions with each other. It could be undestood as "I in you, you in me".

How this concept changes the group job process is by creating a workplace behavior.

Managers must undestand the importance of working with the employees feeling and needs keepping in mind that almost every human brings his worries, dreams and personal issues to the job, which makes even harder the interaction and understanding feeling between job parteners.
I also risk myself by affirming that working with the pygmalion effect Ubuntu would be easy to implement in a company because every employee, every escential part of the company will feel irreplaceble as a community. Bringing harmony, value and social attitud to the mision of every activity the company does.

The Pygmalion Effect

The pygmalion effect is the process that occurs the empowerment of an individual throught the development of certain competences to perform roles that weren't identified as the individual nature.

As an example I may mention the case of an assitant acounter in a big company in New York that throught a strong process of motivation with the aim of having this person become the company's president developed all the attitudes. All this by convincing him that he was able to perform the president charge. the results were amazing just by flattering his self-steem.
